OH&S Computer Safety Guidelines

9) Recommend a site with good information about OHS for computer users, Write a brief summary of why it is important to follow OHS guidlines. Link your recommended site.


9.1- When using a computer it is important follow the strict Occupational Health and Safety guidelines so you do not injure yourself. The guidelines include some of the following;
  • Proper seat and desk height.
  • Correct posture.
  • Feet support

OSX

7) Write a brief summary of why you would use Mac OSX, include a link to the Apple OSX site.

7.1- The reason why you would use OSX is because if you're using a lot of creative programs like Final Cut Studio, Pro Tools, Logic 8, Adobe Creative Suite and many more. OSX is developed for those in the Film, Audio, Graphic, Photography and other such industries. So naturally these people will find OSX has better native resources then Windows might, this is why one might wish to use OSX over Windows.

Recommendation of Software

6) Recommend your favourite software application. Write a brief description of what it is and include a link to the site.

6.1- My favourite piece of software to recommend is iTunes by Apple. It holds all my media in one convenient place, I can even access an online store and buy music if I wish or subscribe to podcasts that artists, tv shows and radio shows put up for free download.

The Boot Process

5) Find a great article on the Boot Process. Write a brief description of what it is, include a link to the site.

5.1- The boot process is where the user turns their computer system, in this process all the default drivers are loaded so the connected pieces of hardware can be used by the system user.

What An Operating System Does

4) What a brief description of what an operating system does. Create a link to a site with good information on Operating Systems.

4.1- An operating system is a piece of software which allows you too boot your computer so you then can excutes tasks such as browse the internet, send and receive emails, type up documents and many more. An example of an Operating System is Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, 7. Windows is the most popular operating system for computers today.

eWaste

3) Go to the Greenpeace website. Read the information about eWaste. Write a brief summary of it, include a link to the Greenpeace site page about eWaste.

3.1- eWaste; eWaste is the unwanted electrical goods consumers buy then throw away when they no longer work, have become obsolete or are no longer needed. Most of the time when eWaste is thrown away it is usually exported illegally to third world countries for the people to pick out the precious metals then burn off the plastics which put out carcinogenic smoke when burnt.

New Internal Hardware!

2) Locate information of one new piece of internal hardware. Write a brief description of it, include link to site.

2.1- Intel Core i7 Processors; The Intel Core i7 processors are the newest line of processors from Intel. The processors support multi-core technology where it's needed and they're faster of their predecessors the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors from Intel.

2.2- Nvidia GeForce GTX 295; The Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 is a high end top of the range graphics card produced by Nvidia who is currently leading the market in gaming graphics card technology. The GTX 295 is an outstanding card it out performs in games such as Crysis, Call of Duty 5: World at War, Grand Theft Auto IV and many more PC titles.

2.3- Intel X58 Motherboard; The intel X58 Motherboard is the perfect accomplice for the Intel Core i7 Processor, with support for upto 8 threads, DDR3 triple channel ram and support for ATIs CrossfireX and Nvidia's SLI. The Intel X58 Motherboard also has a lot of other features as well.

Three New Peripheral Devices!

1) Locate three new peripheral devices. Write a brief description of each. At least one of them must be bizarre or very unusual, include link to site.

1.1-
Razer Naga;
The Razer Naga is a new type of mouse for desktop computers, it is designed for gamers who speficially play Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games or MMORPG as it it shorted down to. An example of games the mouse is useful for are World of Warcraft, EVE Online & Warhammer 40,000 Online.

1.2- Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard;
The Logitech G19 is a keyboard designed for gamers, it has many features including; backlit keys, a 320x240 colour LCD screen, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 12 programmable Macro keys.

1.3- USB Mood Speaker; The USB Mood Speaker is compact and is able to be hooked upto anything music device with a USB, it has colour LED's which can be controlled via the music or the settings.
